FAQ

What is Lampwork?

It is a type of glass work that uses a gas fueled torch to melt glass rods. It is then shaped With a variety of tools and hand movements. It’s also known as flame working or torch working.

Are your beads annealed?

You bet! Kiln annealing is imperative to remove the stress in the glass that could cause Breakage in these little works of art. You want to avoid lampwork purchased in your hobby Stores and from importers as it is highly unlikely it has been annealed. If you are purchasing from a glass artist be sure you find out if it has been kiln annealed. Flame annealing is not sufficient.   With proper annealing and careful handling your beads should last a lifetime and beyond.

Jewelry Metals

I prefer to use sterling silver in my finished pieces. With the economy the way it is I am trying To offer a variety of metals for all budgets. Please read the description of the item carefully. Sterling Silver is a mixture of silver and another metal. The standard is 92.5% silver which is why You often will see a .925 stamp on some items.

Rhodium is part of the platinum family. Items are often plated with it to resist scratches, tarnish and to give the piece a brighter reflective appearance. On items such as a ring it can wear off and give a yellowish appearance within several years.   Items such as necklaces can last 10 or more years.

Gold –plated is a base metal such as still or copper that has been electroplated with a lump of solid gold. Electroplating deposits a thin layer of gold on the findings and it can wear off.

Vermeil is sterling silver that has been gold plated. Vermeil has a much thicker layer Of gold than Gold plated and wears better.

Gold –filled is a base metal that has been covered by sheets of gold in a bonding process. If cared for properly it should last as long as long as 14kt gold jewelry.

TierraCast is lead free pewter that has been plated in gold, rhodium, silver or copper.
